Pasadena’s own Rozy Yan made history as the first female Armenian rapper to headline a show at the legendary Whiskey a Go Go. Her performance marked a milestone not just for her career but also for representation in the rap industry. Rising from humble beginnings in Pasadena’s inner city, Rozy captivated the crowd with her authenticity and commanding stage presence.
Securing a headlining spot at the iconic venue was no small feat. “DJ Mamba introduced us to the opportunity,” Rozy shared. With just eight weeks to prepare, the journey was intense but rewarding. “It was a very fun and exciting process. With the help of DJ Mamba, Raffi, Money Waterz, and Whiteboycellz, we did it,” she said, reflecting on the collaborative effort that made the night a success.
Every moment on stage was special for Rozy, but performing at such a historic venue carried extra weight. “Whiskey a Go Go stage was ‘AMAZING,’ like Jesse Peterson would say,” she said, her excitement still fresh. Sharing the stage with her guests, including labelmates Money Waterz and Whiteboycellz, added to the night’s significance.
Rozy also shared the spotlight with RBL Posse, the legendary Bay Area rap group known for their raw lyrics and deep influence on West Coast hip-hop. Performing alongside a group with such a storied history was a testament to Rozy’s growing prominence in the rap scene.
The set list was a team effort, carefully curated to showcase Rozy’s versatility and highlight her collaborations. One standout moment was performing her upcoming single Pick It Up with Whiteboycellz, set to drop in January 2025. “I chose Whiteboycellz because he is very talented, and I just did a feature song with him,” she explained.
For Rozy, every lyric and collaboration represents growth. “Get that money baby, put it all in my hand like it’s for me baby” she highlighted as her favorite line from “Pick It Up” because its a bar that not only sounds good but feels empowering. Collaborating with Whiteboycellz, whom she describes as “sharp” and hardworking, pushed her to evolve her sound and embrace new creative challenges.
As the first female Armenian rapper, Rozy carries her cultural pride with her every step of the way. “I take a lot of pride in this position that I have been blessed with,” she said. Born in Armenia and raised in Pasadena, her journey embodies resilience and determination. To her doubters, she confidently declared, “2025 we taking it to the next level. You’ll see! Action speaks louder than words.”
Looking ahead, Rozy plans to release two new projects under her label, Rich Rose Entertainment, which she co-founded with her husband, Rich Rose Raffi, in 2020. “Rich Rose Ent is not only a label but it represents our lifestyle. We are from the city of roses, and every rose is rich,” she explained. The label now includes Rozy, Money Waterz, and Whiteboycellz, whose dual roles as an artist and producer further strengthen their creative collective.
From the streets of Pasadena to headlining one of LA’s most iconic venues, Rozy Yan is breaking barriers and inspiring others to follow in her footsteps. This is only the beginning for the trailblazing rapper determined to take her culture, her city, and her sound to new heights.
