A report that Jay-Z has completed a new album and is waiting for the right strategic partner to release it has been disputed by Roc Nation, leaving the status of the rapper’s next solo project unclear.
Music executive Ray Daniels recently claimed that Jay-Z’s follow-up to 4:44 is “completely done” during an episode of his podcast. Daniels said the album could be released if a company partners with Jay-Z, but suggested it may not arrive without the right business arrangement.
“His album is done,” Daniels said. “It’s completely done. We might get it if somebody partners with him. If nobody partners with him, it’s not coming.”
Daniels also said Jay-Z was focused on protecting his brand and that someone had contacted him to confirm the album’s status. The comments quickly circulated among fans, particularly because Jay-Z has not released a solo studio album since 4:44 arrived in June 2017.
Roc Nation responded to the claim on Instagram. The company posted, “‘Album done’ … Fake news,” appearing to reject the central detail of Daniels’ report.
The statement does not clarify whether Jay-Z has been recording new music, whether an incomplete project exists, or whether discussions with potential partners have taken place. It does indicate that the claim of a finished album is not being confirmed by Jay-Z’s company.
