Hip Hop Dose is here to introduce to you a fresh new Canadian hip-hop artist. Trailblazing out of Toronto is rising rhymer Riicch with a fresh new release. Kicking off 2022 the right way, he reveals his most recent release, “New Way”. This OVO affiliate is here with his foot on the industry’s neck. With no signs of letting up anytime soon.
Recently, on January 14th, the Canadian rapper dropped off the paired visuals for his trendy track. In the visual, Riicch is seen performing in front of a snowy mansion while wearing his coveted “50 World” face mask. In fact, the record serves as a tribute track, dedicated to Riicch’s late brother and Drake’s known affiliate, Fif, who passed in a 2017 shooting.
Riicch’s OVO affiliation extends beyond his brother. Additionally, the rapper was spotted playing basketball in Drake’s private league, the OVO Basketball League. While also credits Drake with assisting his family in moving on from the death of his late brother. His latest offering comes on the heels of his 2021 debut EP God Don’t Sleep. Also with it, he unveiled an official music video for his single “Spur of the Moment” single. For instance, back in January 2021, Riicch chopped it up with Complex Canada to discuss his debut project. He goes on to say,
“It’s going to be dark trap… That’s pretty much what my feelings have been like since my brother passed away, especially the first six months. You know, there are a lot of things where I feel like a lot of his burdens that he had—people who had pending issues with him, I felt they spilled over to me.”
Riicch’s confident-yet-melancholic flows and melodies are a result of his upbringing in Scarborough’s rougher neighborhoods. He isn’t afraid to speak openly about his struggles—and near-death experiences—both before and after Fif’s death. As Riicch teases more music, rumors of another full-length album drop off have circulated online. Fans are currently eager for the follow-up to his debut six-track EP, God Don’t Sleep. His latest offering of “New Way” is just a peep hole insight into what’s to come from Riicch in 2022.
