Once upon a time in the realm of social media and musical creativity, two maestros of the industry, B.o.B and Kato On The Track, embarked on a quest to discover the next sensation. Their journey unfolded through a groundbreaking social media challenge that promised the opportunity of a lifetime to an aspiring indie artist.
In the early days of the month, Kato shared the exciting news of their collaboration with Audius, an events and contest platform, for an exclusive worldwide competition. This contest, aptly named the “Over Night Success Story (ONSS)” challenge, aimed to lure artists from every corner of social media into crafting their own viral hit over the canvas of Kato’s masterful productions. The chosen victor of this musical duel would be granted the privilege of an all-expenses-paid trip to Atlanta, where they would collaborate with Kato and B.o.B, engage in creative endeavors, and more.
To partake in this musical odyssey, fans needed only to create an Audius account, purchase any ONSS instrumental from Kato, and upload their track. The magic touch was in toggling the “identify as a remix” option and adding the link from the original instrumental on Kato’s page. The call to action echoed across the digital landscape with encouragements to tag @KatoProducer, @bob, and @audius.
Kato, a maestro of open verse challenges with over 65 under his belt, had established himself as the fourth most dueted artist on TikTok in 2021. His 2020 #SoPretty challenge had garnered participation from celebrities like Alicia Keys. Notably, Kato’s previous No Sucka MC’s contest had been a launchpad for mainstream lyricists like Joyner Lucas and Token over its illustrious seven-year run.
“I did a contest every year for 7 years called No Sucka MC’s and it was always a big success… Joyner Lucas, Token, a few more notable names that won. When I recently asked my fans on IG what they wanted, they overwhelmingly just wanted a chance to hang out and get in the studio for a day. So I hit up Bob because it was a no-brainer to add a Grammy Award Winning artist and songwriter to the mix to really take the experience to the next level.” Kato said of crafting the challenge.
Even though the challenge deadline looms on February 4, Kato promises to continue the ONSS storyline throughout the year with more musical adventures, collaborations, and the embodiment of the Overnight Success Story mantra throughout the rest of 2024.
“This is only the first of many. There will be opportunities like this every 4 to 6 weeks that me and my team has planned in advance from last year. There are some really talented people out there and I have been fortunate to be a part of the early stages of their careers. Jarren Benton, Jack Harlow, Joyner Lucas, Ktlyn, and Reyanna Maria. It’s kind of what I am known for. Can’t wait to dig up more amazing talent and help put fans onto them,” Kato said.
