New York-based artist Swooptick (aka Swoop) grew up in what most would consider a low-income Brooklyn neighborhood. However, Swoop always looked for the positive in it all, seeking to inspire his younger siblings and show them that where they are doesn’t have to be where they end up. To keep his head up, Swoop used music as an outlet. With early influences from artists like Lil Uzi Vert, 50 cent, will.i.am, and Kanye West, Swoop began ghostwriting as a way to try his hand at creating music without having to be in the spotlight. However, he quickly realized that the music he was giving away wasn’t always being executed the way he would have liked. It was then that he knew it was time to put himself in the forefront and forge his unique sound. Swoop wanted to create music with high energy, music he could work out to and be excited about:

“I wanted the music to reflect how I was feeling physically with the vibe and the energy that I was putting out during my workouts; I needed that adrenaline rush.” After trying a few tracks, Swoop landed on a single that resonated with his audience, called “Keep Going. As I gear up for the release of my highly anticipated single “Ice Spice,” I also want to make sure that I continue to release good music with positive messages and no profanity – an alternative to what the youth is used to these days, something that can be globally recognized for making a real change in communities similar to the one I grew up in!”

“Keep Going” was played on Power 105.1 under DJ Self and received well over 10,000+ views online with all organic promotion. While the single continued to reach success online and on the radio, Swoop began to gain notoriety with artists like Lil Uzi, who quickly deemed him “Next Up” and Wyclef Jean, who considered his music “The Future.” These major co-signs became a driving force for Swoop, pushing him to want to continue to live up to the hype while also finding new and innovative ways to bridge the gap between New York’s iconic “Hip Hop Sound” and the new sound he is creating. All while creating a more unified NYC connecting all boroughs in a way no artist has done in the past. Now to start things off, Swoop has now released his debut single “Ice Spice.”
