Busta Rhymes has released a new visual for “Back Pain, Chest Pain, Head Pain,” a track built on an unreleased J Dilla production and featured on Dillagence II. The video arrived October 16, extending the rollout for the 19-track album while Busta’s recording enters the 2027 Grammy Awards conversation for Best Rap Performance.
Directed by Benny Boom alongside Busta Rhymes, the video places the veteran MC, also appearing as his alter ego, The Dragon, in a crowded party setting. Longtime hype man Spliff Star is also featured. The visual moves between a tightly packed gathering, a convenience store and sequences shaped by abstract projections.
Its blue-green lighting and close, restless framing create an enclosed, kinetic atmosphere. Rather than staging the performance in a conventional, open concert space, the video surrounds Busta with partygoers, shifting the focus between his delivery and the energy of the crowd.
A video tied to the album’s ongoing rollout
“Back Pain, Chest Pain, Head Pain” was first previewed in 2022, years before its official appearance on Dillagence II. The song now has a prominent place in the album’s release campaign, following earlier singles “Spazzz,” released August 6, and “Talk Ya Shit,” featuring Lil Wayne, released August 13.
The album arrived August 25, 2026, through The Conglomerate Entertainment. Its 19 tracks draw from a collection of unreleased J Dilla beats that Busta says he received more than 20 years ago. Before Dilla’s death in 2006, he had given Busta more than 300 productions. Material that remained in the rapper’s hands as he considered how to bring the music to listeners.
That long timeline gives Dillagence II a distinct place in Busta’s catalog. It connects two artists whose creative relationship began well before this album and whose work continues to meet across generations of hip-hop. The project is built from Dilla’s production, but its presentation also reflects Busta’s approach as an MC and curator.
The album’s format is deliberately mixtape-like. Its tracks tend to be shorter, with fewer choruses than a conventional, hook-driven studio album. That structure leaves room for compact ideas, quick transitions and a broad range of voices without requiring every song to follow the same arrangement.
A collaborative project with family approval
The guests on Dillagence II span several eras and styles. The album features D’Angelo, Big Sean, Anderson .Paak, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Common, Jon Batiste, Talib Kweli, T3, Honey Bxby and La Reezy. Their appearances place contemporary rap alongside artists connected to different chapters of Dilla’s musical world.
The album also opens and closes with Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, Dilla’s mother. The project was approved by her and J Dilla’s estate, with her presence on the intro and outro framing the release as a family-approved continuation of the producer’s legacy.
That approval is an important part of the album’s context. Dillagence II is not simply a collection of archival beats paired with new performances; it brings together Busta’s long-held material and a collaborative process that included Dilla’s family and estate. The result gives the album a personal dimension alongside its roster of featured artists.
“Back Pain, Chest Pain, Head Pain” fits within that wider story: a track made possible by a beat preserved for years and now presented as part of a full-length release. The video adds a new visual chapter to the song without changing its place in the album’s larger tribute to Dilla’s work.
Grammy consideration, not a nomination
The video’s release also coincides with Busta’s “For Your Consideration” push for Best Rap Performance at the 2027 Grammy Awards. The distinction matters: consideration or submission is not the same as an official nomination. The 2027 nominees are scheduled to be announced November 16, with the ceremony set for February 7, 2027.
Busta is a 12-time Grammy nominee who has yet to win. His current campaign adds another chapter to that history, but the outcome remains undecided. “Back Pain, Chest Pain, Head Pain” is being put forward for consideration; whether it advances to the final nominations will be determined through the Academy’s awards process.
The timing also places the song within the 2027 Grammy eligibility period, which covers recordings released from August 31, 2025, through August 28, 2026. Dillagence II arrived August 25, three days before the eligibility window closed. The October 16 video release is a later visual component of the rollout, while the album and track were released within the eligibility period.
A continuing Busta Rhymes and J Dilla connection
For Busta, Dillagence II expands a musical connection that has remained meaningful for decades. The album takes a substantial cache of Dilla’s unreleased productions and places them in dialogue with a wide range of collaborators. Its mixtape structure keeps the project moving, while the appearances from Ma Dukes at its beginning and end underscore the personal history behind the release.
The “Back Pain, Chest Pain, Head Pain” video carries that history into a contemporary setting. Benny Boom’s direction, Busta’s presence as The Dragon and Spliff Star’s appearance anchor the visual in a crowded party atmosphere, with convenience-store scenes and abstract projections adding contrast. It is both a new video release and another step in the ongoing introduction of Dillagence II.
The project’s next major milestone will be the Grammy nomination announcement on November 16. Until then, the track remains in the consideration stage, and the video gives listeners a fresh look at one piece of an album built from music Busta held onto for more than two decades.
