The wait is over! Kandyland, the long-awaited EP from LA-based artist 199X, is here! On March 5th, 199X dropped a project that is not only enjoyable, but one he describes himself as being in “rockstar mode” while curating.
199X is a multi-talented entrepreneur extraordinaire. The triple-threat producer, song-writer, and artist, produced all of the songs on his EP except “Kamera.” In fact, the track was curated by Arejeigh, who is 199X’s engineer and brother.
The Breakdown
“Gone,” the first track on his EP, is a fun party anthem with a distinctive beat that makes you want to get up and dance. According to the Los Angeles rhymer in a recent interview, the project is about the underground party scene that sprung up during the COVID-19 pandemic. As well as how 199X used that as inspiration to make his new EP which can be heard in the carefree nature of the tracks.
Next up is Arejeigh’s collaborated track titled, “Kamera”. In just over two minutes, 199X delivers a memorable melody over a captivating beat. Enabling the record to get stuck on repeat in your head until you sing or dance it out.
From the bass to his wordplay, the third track, “XXX,” will definitely get you hooked. The record is entertaining and serves as a party anthem. It is the second shortest track on the EP yet has the greatest potential to become the most popular. Although the entire album will have you bopping and on your feet, “XXX” steals the show. Establishing 199X as one of the most promising new artists.
Welcome To Kandyland
“KANDYLAND,” the album’s eponymous or self-titled track, is the album’s shortest track. Clocking in at just over a minute and thirty seconds. Just, like “XXX,” this song demonstrates 199X’s versatility and skill as an artist.
While the project as a whole has an overall narrative of loosening up and partying, the songs don’t sound alike. With his Kandyland EP, 199X demonstrates his versatility and tenacity. Don’t believe me? Give 199X’s new EP titled, Kandyland, a spin and let us know what you think!
